In the morning we took a minibus from Amman's Abdali Bus Station (now closed) to the historical site of Jerash about 50km to the north. Known as the City of Gerasa in the Classical era, Jerash is now a major tourist attraction in Jordan. Many compare Jerash to Pompeii in terms of the level of preservation. To me, there is little common between the two. The three of us entered the site through Hadrian's Gate, took our time to wander around the site and saw a number of ancient buildings, including the Temple of Artemis, many Corinthian columns, some early churches, the magnificent Oval Piazza, and two theaters. At the second theatre, there was a band of Jordanian musicians, dressed in military uniforms, playing ceremonial music on the stage.

We exited the ruins through the north gate, and then we hired a taxi to return to where the bus dropped us off in the morning. At the station, we met an old man who claimed to be an experience tour guide. He said he had been to Hong Kong in early 1970s. He showed us where to take a cheaper bus back to Amman.
