After Blue Mosque, we headed to the nearby Basilica Cistern to visit the ancient underground cistern where pagan ornaments, dim flood lights, and schools of swimming fish complete a mysterious setting. An ancient cistern built probably in early Byzantine times, abandoned and then forgotten. Just then from time to time there were stories about how people in the Middle Age could dig a hole in their basement and then fished from there. Just incredible.
Down a diagonal street from the cistern entrance, we had lunch at an eatery where a lady prepared naan breads in the forecourt. After lunch, we passed by Hippodrome, made a brief visit at Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts, picked up some Turkish Delight at Ali Muhiddin Haci Bekir, popped into the Yemi Camii, visited the nearby spice market, and crossed the Galata Bridge where many tested their luck of catching a fish in the Bosphorus.
