2006.04.29_Athens, Istanbul
At 14:00 we arrived at Athens. We took the underground and get off at Victoria for the National Archaeological Museum. After a brief visit, we headed back to the airport for our evening flight to Istanbul.
20:30, light rain. Underground, and then tram. At 22:00 we arrived at the City's historical heart, Suleymaniye. Istanbul is a crowded city, with a population of around 10 million. Everywhere there were shops and restaurants. We passed by Aksaray, a relatively modern district where local eateries lined up streets after street. In contrast, the tourist Suleymaniye was relatively quiet when we get there. Maybe it was a little late.
Blue Mosque at night. That was the first welcoming monument of old Istanbul. Our hostel was only a block or two behind the magnificent mosque. After checked in at Sultan Hostel, we found a local eatery nearby and dropped in for a quick bite. Nothing special about the food, but at least the restaurant opened late. That's that. Our first night in Turkey.
