The surreal afternoon continued as evening approached. At 19:00 we (except AK) were invited to the rooftop patio of Homerous for a glass of wine. How much did I hope that the day could never end. Causal chat with fellow travelers, intimate talk with my travel buddies, sublime view of Selcuk, romantic sunset, refreshing glass of white, gentle breeze, occasional noises of cars and dogs, smell from the kitchen... I thought I was dreaming.

After we returned to Homerous, HC and SH borrowed two bikes from the staff and headed out. The rest of us walked causally around the town, and headed over to the citadel area. We didn't go inside. The locals in Selcuk were very friendly and they all seemed relaxed and contented under the afternoon sun. It was a surreal afternoon. Everything just seemed so perfect, at that moment at that particular place, while we had no worries from school or work, nowhere to rush to, nothing to really care about.

2006.05.05_Ephesus

We had a great fruit breakfast in the morning. After breakfast, a staff of Homerous drove us to a bank where we exchanged money, and then to the world renowned archaeological ruins of Ephesus. Ephesus (Efes) was one of the greatest Greek and Roman cities in the Classical era. It is a very popular attraction in this part of Turkey, thanks to its close proximity to the cruise port and airport in the resort town of Kusadasi. The magnificent facade of the Library of Celsus is pretty much the signature image of Classical ruins in Turkey. It was the time in the year where poppies blossomed allover the ruins. We split apart as we wandered the site. MC and I walked around the site, up to the temple and council areas, and then returned to the Library of Celsus where I sat down and make two sketches. At 17:00 we met up once again and headed to the main entrance where the staff of Homerous promised to pick us up.
